BLESSED BE OUR GOD!

The Word of God is filled with glorious realities about God and what He has done for His children. But none are more wonderful than Peter’s inspired writing in the opening of his letter. Read this carefully, slowly, relishing each phrase.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (1 Pe 1:3–5)
ACCORDING TO HIS GREAT MERCY, HE HAS CAUSED US TO BE BORN AGAIN
It is not our doing, it is His, all of Him. He caused this to happen, and He orchestrated our spiritual re-birth into His kingdom. And it is all by His mercy.
TO OBTAIN AN INHERITANCE
Just think of this. No one has obtained the inheritance that Christ’s children have. Look at these adjectives Paul uses to try to capture its magnitude. It is
- IMPERISHABLE: it will never decay. It will be just as glorious a million years from now as today
- UNDEFILED: untouched by sin’s taint or the world’s advances.
- UNFADING: it will never be less.
- RESERVED IN HEAVEN: regardless of the events of this life, our inheritance is reserved for us by the power of God.
- FOR YOU: And it is personal. It is an inheritance with your name on it forever and ever.
And, in the meantime, we are “protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”
Trials cannot destroy nor upset this. This great inheritance is our blessed hope that carries us in this life right into the eternal next.
Hallelujah, what a Savior!
