GOD’S OWN GOOD TIME
Share
We get frustrated when things are not on our schedule. Our pride makes us think we know what is best in all circumstances. Therefore, when others don’t observe our schedule, we’re upset.
But our greatest frustrations are often with God Himself. The tragedy of our hubris is, of course, that God is perfect in His timing. He is never in a hurry, but always on time.
I charge you to keep this command without fault or failure until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ. God will bring this about in his own time. He is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings, and the Lord of lords, (1 Timothy 6:13–15)
Paul reminds us to be faithful and obey the instructions of the Lord fully until the second coming of Christ. When will this be? Paul forever settles this question. It will come about “in His own time.”
WHY WE CAN REST
This explanation will not help an unbeliever who has disregarded God. But why should believers not worry when we think God is delaying or missing the best opportunity to provide an answer, fulfill a prayer, bring healing, or redeem a wandering child? We can trust God because “He is the blessed and ONLY Sovereign, the King of kings and the Lord of lords.”
God is over all, sees all, knows all. His scheduling is immaculate. In the “fullness of time” He sent His Son to save us. And in the fullness of time, He will send His Son for the consummation of the age and our completed redemption. If we can trust His timing on the ultimate moments, we can trust Him with every lesser concern.
And He is concerned. He cares for the lilies of the field and the birds of the air, meeting their needs with perfect precision. Paul knew that God would “supply all of our needs through His riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19), and David rested in the fact that “The Lord will accomplish that which concerns me. His lovingkindness is everlasting” (Psalm 138:8).
Lay your burdens and prayers before Him. Be still and know that He is God. Relax in, not only His provisions, but also His timing. Place everything there with settled faith … and let Him answer in His own good time.
