HAVING ALL THE RICHES
Share
We are needy. We have physical needs for life, breath, and health. We have financial needs for sustenance. We have a need for knowledge to understand and wisdom to know how to live. We have emotional needs to love and be loved. But most importantly, we have spiritual needs to be forgiven and cleansed, restored to God, and full of purpose and direction.
Is there any hope of getting those needs met? Of gaining what we most need?
Here is Paul’s answer.
For I want you to know how greatly I am struggling for you, for those in Laodicea, and for all who have not seen me in person. I want their hearts to be encouraged and joined together in love, so that they may have all the riches of complete understanding and have the knowledge of God’s mystery—Christ. In him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. (Colossians 2:1–3)
HAVING ALL
Is it possible to have it all? Everything we need? YES! It is all found in Christ. If you have Him, you have everything. The critical next step for the believer who HAS Christ is to so walk with Him and look at Him that we EXPERIENCE Christ.
“All the riches of complete understanding” is a comprehensive statement. Think of this. We can understand everything that needs to be understood if we walk with Christ. Every answer we need is found in Him. Every need is supplied through Him. All the wisdom we need to know what to do and how to do it is there.
TREEHOUSE BUILDING
I’m building a treehouse for my grandkids right now. My son is helping me. The one who taught me to use my tools was my father who was a pastor but also a wonderful carpenter (which he learned from his dad, also a pastor and carpenter!) The knowledge to know how to find the angles, make the cuts, and secure the boards in proper ways was all learned through them.
I wish I had them with us right now. If Daniel and I had my grandad and dad beside us, we would make quite a team! But, in a sense, we do. All we gained from them is with us.
But, in even greater reality, Christ is with us if we are true believers. Literally, all the time, and His Spirit dwells within us. He is in us and available for communion 24/7 through the Word and prayer. We have all we need. We just need to walk closely with Him.
Just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in Him. (Col. 2:6)
We must lay aside our foolish pride, admit our need and cry out to Him. We must look to Him, listen to Him, follow Him and we will experience “all the riches of complete understanding.” What more could we desire?
