HUMILITY’S REWARD

HUMILITY’S REWARD

The reward of humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, honor, and life.

(Proverbs 22:4)

There are some who only know true Christianity from a distance who have embraced a pack of lies about walking with God. They assume the worst, simply because they have never bent the knee before Him. They know Him and His ways only at a distance, clouded by God’s great Enemy and his incessant lies.

But for those who have been graciously called to His feet and have come, there is an open door to “every good and perfect gift” (James 1:17). They are the happy recipients of all the riches of God in this life and an heir and joint heir to all that is above for all eternity!

REWARDED

Look at this one verse above from the wise Solomon. “There is a reward,” he says, “for all those who will walk in humility and the fear of the Lord.” Humility is seeing God and yourself properly and knowing the difference. It is bending the knee and realizing you are a creature fearfully and wonderfully made, but a creature, nonetheless. That means a Creator at the beginning of your existence, and if so, we must recognize His Lordship and reverence Him as such.

For the man or woman who yields in humility and reverent fear, the reward is vast: “Riches, honor, and life.” Meditate for a moment on those three promised gifts.

RICHES

The humble believer will receive all they need in life. This is not limited to mere material provisions, but vastly more. For those who walk with God, we have the wealth of understanding and wisdom that no one else has access to. Emotional joy that is full for “in His presence is fullness of joy and at His right hand are pleasures forevermore.” As well as the unwavering promise of our daily bread.

HONOR

Though we do not deserve it, the Lord Jesus walks us into the throne room of heaven. We now have peace facing God because of the work of Christ and our kinship to Him, and by faith we enter into this grace in which we now stand, and we rejoice in our confident hope of experiencing the glory of God! (Romans 5:1-2). We are made kings and priests and all the privileges that provides. Simply because of Christ’s gracious salvation and acceptance of His beloved children.

LIFE!

We were dead in our trespasses and sin. A dead man can think nothing, do nothing, enjoy nothing, experience nothing, contribute nothing. Dead. But we are humbled by the truth that the Lord Jesus has made us alive. We know His inner life now and will never die, experiencing immortal, eternal life! There is no demand made upon us that is not made on the life of Christ that is in us. What a reward!

Rewards for humility and the fear of God! Rewards given from the God of heaven simply because, as His creatures, we took the posture we should have had from the beginning! Rewards in spite of our weakness, and sin, and need!

Scoff at Christianity all you will, but you have no idea. But if this calls to you, perhaps it’s time for you to humbly, reverently bow the knee to our gracious King.
