OUR NEW SONG

It’s estimated that over 35 million songs are uploaded to streaming devices every year. Over 100,000 are digitally uploaded each day. These totals of new songs do not take into account the millions of songs that are not formally recorded.

We were made to sing. And we have countless things to sing about.

But where is the greatest song? The best that will ever be created and sung? That song is reserved for heaven. Those who know Christ have the glorious privilege of hearing and singing this glorious melody.

And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are You to take the book and to break its seals; for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth.”  (Revelation 5:9–10)

It is the song about the greatest One in eternity and the greatest act that has ever been done. It is the song about Christ, giving praise for His ultimate sacrifice, shedding His blood to purchase people from “every tribe and tongue and people and nation.

Not only has He purchased them, but He also has “made them to be a kingdom and priests.” These are the ones who will one day rule on a new heaven and new earth for all of eternity.

So, think of this: in that new eternity, we will not hear the millions of foolish songs of the world about trivial pursuits and godless living. We will not hear the strong, incessant Siren calls of Satan’s songs to walk away from God and follow evil, or the self-centered songs of our own sinful hearts. All of that will be gone.

The new heaven and earth will only echo with the purest songs, the greatest anthems created to honor the Father and Son who are the center of our adoration. The quality and content of those new songs will be untouched by sin and hell. We will hear the purest compositions sung with perfect voice and instrument. Nothing we will ever have heard will match the songs of heaven, and God’s redeemed family will hear them, and sing them, forever!
