THE ASBURY AWAKENING: IS GOD STILL MOVING?

When revival began at Asbury University in February of 1970 (53 years ago) it was an amazing movement and catalytic to the Jesus Movement, which would last several more years, capturing the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.

Revival came to my college campus and to many campuses THE NEXT FALL. 100,000 people would gather in Dallas stadium two years later at EXPLO72. The residual effects of this merciful intervention by God spanned many years.

Don't underestimate what God is doing right now or think His purposes have ended. God revealed Himself mightily in February of this year during a chapel service at Asbury that lasted 16 days, night and day. The testimony of that literally went to millions upon millions around the world through the Collegiate Day of Prayer broadcast, which was shown live from Hughes Auditorium on the final night of the public gatherings. The news went around the world and there is continuing interest in the world regarding revival and spiritual awakening. Why did this happen (which was completely orchestrated and funded by God)?

God is making Himself known. He is preparing for what we can hopefully believe could be a worldwide movement of spiritual awakening. Asbury gave us faith to believe it could happen in our city, our campus, our nation.

Spiritual awakenings are like waves, both hills and valleys. God is not through. Pursue Him, cry out to Him, and ask Him to send His movement across our nation and world so that His glory will cover the earth "like waters cover the sea."

So this morning, January 1, 2025, I rise early once again. I will enter into the throne room before the Father, because the Son has made a way for me to come into this “grace in which I now stand.” I will open the Word God has written and preserved for me so I could have it in my hands. I will ask the precious Holy Spirit to teach me, showing me things which “eye has not seen and ear has not heard” that have been prepared for me. And I will have the glorious privilege, once again, of communing with God.
