THE EVER-PRESENT, EVER-SUFFICIENT ABUNDANCE OF GOD

When Jacob, the grandson of Abraham who had inherited the promises of his grandfather and father, left Israel, God met him in a dream. All night long he saw a ladder between earth and heaven with angels ascending and descending, meeting every need, recorded in Genesis 28.

In Genesis 32, Jacob has been gone for 20 years, serving God in a foreign land. And now, instructed by God to return to the promised land, he returns and we read this amazing account, described in a few simple sentences.

Jacob went on his way, and God’s angels met him. When he saw them, Jacob said, “This is God’s camp.” So he called that place Mahanaim. (Genesis 32:1-2)

When he left the promised land, he had a vision of angels ascending and descending a ladder, as if to bid him farewell. Now that he is going back, the angels are there again to speed him on his way home to the land of the covenant, the land the Lord had promised to give to Abraham and his seed. We may go on our way in peace and safety, for God’s hosts are all around us. We do not go unattended at any single moment of our lives. Better than squadrons of horses and regiments of foot soldiers are the “ministering spirits sent out to serve those who are going to inherit salvation” (Hebrews 1:14).

The Father provides everything and everyone needed to take care of His own. If you are His, follow Him faithfully and fear not. Who knows what hosts of angels attend you, for His eye is always upon His beloved children.
