THE GOAL OF OUR INSTRUCTION

THE GOAL OF OUR INSTRUCTION

So that your trust may be in the LORD, I have taught you today, even you. (Proverbs 22:19)

It is our great task and highest privilege as followers of Christ to teach others what we know of Christ. If you have come to Him, your calling is to grow in Him and then share that truth with others.

But there is one purpose. It is not to impress them with your knowledge or to merely drill into them a prescribed set of ritualistic formulas about the Christian life. To proudly or selfishly pull them just to us is to pull them away from the One they need.

THE ENDGAME
Our goal is to help them to Christ. He is the never-ending source of life and wisdom. Everything they will ever need, they will find in Him.

And, there is a particular response we long and pray for as we disciple them. Faith. The writer in Proverbs said he was teaching others so that their “trust may be in the Lord.” Not in themselves and not in any other man. All others will disappoint. But they will never lack if they learn how to live in dependency upon the All-Sufficient-One.

Christ has a means of accomplishing this with all of us. He allows us to go through thousands of experiences to show us the worthlessness of trusting in anything else. We can look to hundreds of other sources. If we are fortunate to have a caring discipler beside us, they will gently take the Scriptures and remind us of the faithfulness of God and the value of a God-oriented life.

SELF-FEEDING
One of the most excellent means of accomplishing this is to help them learn how to read the Bible and listen to the Holy Spirit themselves. How to pray and ask the Spirit for guidance as they open the word every day. If we can teach them the joy of meeting with God through the Word and prayer, we can move on to another someday, and they will not miss a beat. They have learned the great art of spiritual growth, and in heaven, they will thank you for taking them to the ultimate Teacher.

SETTLING THE ISSUE OF WHY YOU LIVE
SETTLING THE ISSUE OF WHY YOU LIVE

February 18, 2025

I have known many people who have had great joy and power in the midst of great suffering. It is humbling that the slightest inconveniences deter many of us from following God. We have not gotten to the bottom—settled the issue. Most often, we live for our comfort, reputation, or gain. When any of those goals are touched, we are troubled and discontent.
