THE GREATEST MOTIVATION FOR PRAYER

THE GREATEST MOTIVATION FOR PRAYER

Why pray? There are a myriad of reasons. God loves you, and just like you love to talk to your children, so He loves to talk to His. Prayer brings God into the equation and accomplishes things that cannot be achieved any other way. And prayer is the only real fear the Devil has. For when God’s people pray, he trembles. He knows his day of domination is over.

WHAT IS THE RIGHT MOTIVATION FOR PRAYER?
God longs for us to come to Him in simplicity and honesty. But we are never on better praying grounds than when get to the place where our prayers are not only for ourselves but for His glory … when we ask for things that will show the world who He is.

Elijah prophecied in Israel in a day of extreme wickedness. The people had walked away from God and suffered all the consequences of a Godless existence.

A great showdown occurred between this lone prophet and 450 prophets of Baal. But listen to Elijah’s motivation for his praying on top of Mt. Carmel.

“Answer me, O LORD, answer me, that this people may know that You, O LORD, are God, and that You have turned their heart back again.” Then the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. When all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, “The LORD, He is God; the LORD, He is God.” (1 Kings 18:37-39)

Elijah longed for God to manifest Himself so that people would know Him and return to Him. And that is precisely what happened.

Pray as God directs. But come to the great foundation of praying for His sake … so that all the world will see our great God for who He is and return to Him.

“The people … found grace in the wilderness.” My, my. The summary of our lives in one verse. Amid this world’s darkness, the Enemy’s relentless attacks, and the weakness of our flesh, we are continually finding grace from our Father, even in the wilderness. In fact, especially in the wilderness.
