THE ULTIMATE TRUTH ABOUT US
Share
There are some truths about you that are universal to man and some that are unique to you. But below every reality there is this foundational statement.
He made us, and we are His (Psalm 100:3)
HIS CREATION
Here is the truth that keeps us humble and centered: God made us. There is no other source. We are not of our own making, nor of any other god’s invention. It was in God’s mind and capacity to create us, and He wove us together in our mother’s womb.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do. (Ephesians 2:10)
When you think of the glory of your mind and body: the DNA of each cell which, if strung together, can reach to the moon. The complexities of your mind. Your fingers and their astounding dexterity. The ability of your entire being to walk and talk and accomplish hundreds of tasks simultaneously. All of that is of God. He made all of you. Every cell came from His creative mind. Nothing else had the capacity or desire to create you. And all of the ability we have to create anything is because He first made us, and we are made in His image.
HIS OWNERSHIP
Therefore, “we are His.” What a statement and comforting reality. “We are His people and the sheep of His pasture,” David goes on to say. In David’s day, there could be no clearer picture than a shepherd’s ownership and care for his flock. All of that and more is true of us.
But it is also a reminder of ownership. We belong to Him; therefore, we have no right to live independently, to bolt from His rule or resist His kind direction. We should yield to His leadership, surrender to His will and way.
And lest we think this is harsh and cruel, read the final verse of this great Psalm.
For the Lord is good, and His lovingkindness endures forever, and His faithfulness to all generations. (Psalm 100:5)
We should rise every morning—and pause in this moment and often throughout the day—with this song on our lips: “The Lord made me, and I am His!”
