UNCEASING PRAISE

UNCEASING PRAISE

From the rising of the sun to its setting the name of the Lord is to be praised. (Psalm 113:3)

A dear friend of mine, Stottler Starr, who was greatly used of God recently died of cancer. The last year of his life has been a time of great suffering, yet he seemed completely content with his situation.

One day, his wife was helping him to the bathroom because he could barely walk. She heard him mumbling under his breath. As she leaned in, she heard him singing hoarsely the old chorus, “It’s amazing what praising can do. Hallelujah!”

It makes sense. If we are in a right frame of mind about reality, we should be giving thanks to God and worshiping Him ALL DAY LONG in every circumstance. Paul reminded us to “Rejoice in the Lord always” and “In everything give thanks.” The Psalmist in Psalm 113 follows this command with the rationale for unceasing praise.

I should be constantly praising ...

HIS SOVEREIGNTY

VS. 4: The Lord is high above all nations, His glory is above the heavens.

HIS UNIQUENESS AND HOLINESS

VS. 5: Who is like the Lord our God?

HIS HUMILITY

VS. 6: Who is enthroned on high, who humbles Himself to behold the things that are in heaven and in the earth.

HIS COMPASSION

VS. 7-8: He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap, to make them sit with princes with the princes of His people.

HIS CARE

VS. 9: He makes the barren woman abide in the house as a joyful mother of children

There is not a moment today, in every situation and any environment, where we should not be praising the Lord! Try singing under the events of your day today—all day—and see what God will do!

And then realize how an attentive, unceasing life of prayer would delight the heart of the Father who made you.
