I’ve encountered some evil men in my day—men who, regardless of reason, were out to destroy me and even destroy the church. I’ve watched men who have had zero concern for the body of Christ but are glad to spread rumors and gossip, burning down everything in their path.
Most of these men I have dealt with have lost control of something they cherished. Things weren’t going their way, and so they feverishly tried to gain their position again. They are a bother in the beginning, but they are always exposed. A lack of integrity will always manifest itself.
… had men like this after him almost his entire life. Over the years, he noticed a pattern. God will take care of His own and will destroy wicked men. Psalm 37 is a treasure of encouragement and information about this.
• They will wither quickly like the grass and fade like the green herb (so you should not fret or be envious of them) (Vs. 1-2)
• Evildoers will be cut off, but those who wait for the Lord will inherit the land (Vs. 9)
• Yet a little while and the wicked man will be no more. You will look carefully for his place, and he will not be there. (Vs. 10)
• The wicked plots against the righteous and gnashes at him with his teeth. The Lord laughs at him, for He sees his day is coming. (Vs. 13)
• The wicked have drawn the sword … the sword will enter their own heart and their bows will be broken (Vs. 14-15)
• The arms of the wicked will be broken, but the Lord sustains the righteous (Vs. 17)
• The wicked will perish, and the enemies of the Lord will be like the glory of the pastures. They vanish—like smoke, they vanish away (Vs. 20)
• Those blessed by Him will inherit the land, but those cursed by Him will be cut off (Vs. 22)
• The descendants of the wicked will be cut off. The righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever. (Vs. 28-29)
• The wicked spies upon the righteous and seeks to kill him. The Lord will not leave him in his hand or let him be condemned when he is judged. (Vs. 32-33)
• I have seen a wicked, violent man spreading himself like a luxuriant tree in its native soil. Then he passed away, and lo, he was no more. I sought for him, but he could not be found (Vs.. 35-36)
• Transgressors will be altogether destroyed. The posterity of the wicked will be cut off (Vs. 38)
God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Wicked men rise and make great noise, but they never win in the end. God will vindicate Himself and all those who trust in Him and follow Him.
If you are a wicked man doing evil things, repent. Turn in humility before the Lord and cry out for His forgiveness and mercy. And, if you are being tormented by wicked men, relax. Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him. In His perfect timing, He will redeem you and deal with your enemies as surely as night follows day.
