WHERE IS THE LORD TO YOU?

WHERE IS THE LORD TO YOU?

I have set the Lord continually before me. (Psalm 16:8)

For some, the Lord is nowhere in their consciousness. They never think about God, His nature and character, His will and way, His purposes, and His plan for their lives. They live their lives unaware and suffer the worst kind of bondage because of it—bondage to the world and its gods.

David speaks of these who have chosen another god than the God who was his God.

I said to the Lord, “You are my Lord. I have no good besides You.” … The sorrows of those who have bartered for another god will be multiplied. I shall not pour out their drink offerings of blood, nor will I take their names upon my lips. (Psalm 16:4)

David knew that the Lord was the “portion of (his) inheritance” and “the lines have fallen to (him) in pleasant places” (vs. 5-6). But here was the great key, the great difference-maker for his life.

“I have set the Lord continually before me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken” (Psalm 16:8)

I have worn eyeglasses since the 8th grade. I put them on as I rise from bed and take them off when I turn out the light at night. I set them “continually before me.” Everything is seen through those lenses, and therefore, everything is clear.

The presence-centered man or woman does the same. They seek to consciously and continually place the Lord before them. They look to Him and listen to Him. They worship Him and follow Him. They know that He is their God and they have no good besides him.

Therefore, like David, they are rewarded with things that are found nowhere else. God becomes their inheritance and their cup. God counsels them in the night. He brings them gladness and joy, security and direction, as Psalm 16 says. And in His presence is fullness of joy and pleasures forever!

Where will God be to you today? Talk to Him in prayer and listen to Him through His Word today. Consciously place Him before you throughout the day. You will have a presence-centered life and the most God-blessed life possible.
