YOUR INSTANT OBEDIENCE MATTERS TODAY

We don’t even know their names. History records them simply as “two disciples.” They were given very specific but unusual directions by Jesus Himself to go ahead of Him into Jerusalem to prepare for His coming. Their task was to get a donkey and bring it to Him.

We read this simple, profound sentence of their response:

The disciples went and did just as Jesus had instructed them. (Matthew 21:6)

There was no questioning of His directive. No push for self-glory. No alternate suggestions. And most telling, no hesitation. They just obeyed His command, and look what their instance of obedience accomplished.

INSTANT OBEDIENCE LETS US COOPERATE WITH AND FULFILL THE PLAN OF GOD
What they did helped accomplish what God had prophesied through Isaiah and Zechariah hundreds of years before. These disciples had no idea of the significance of their quiet submission. They just obeyed, and one more chapter of God’s great plan was accomplished.

INSTANT OBEDIENCE GLORIFIES GOD AND HELPS OTHERS DO THE SAME
They paved the way for the crowd in Jerusalem and millions who would follow for all time to voice praise to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. What could be more important? They helped people see, acknowledge, and worship Jesus. Who knew that the task of “donkey-retrieval” would be so significant? And who knows how significant your simple tasks will be today?

INSTANT OBEDIENCE SHOWS US EVERY CHOICE MATTERS
Their quiet compliance to God helps us understand why our response to the simple promptings of the Spirit makes a difference. We need not reason with God or argue. We don’t need to offer Him alternate agendas or our “better” ideas. We don’t need to question a seemingly unusual command. When He speaks, we need to just do it with a humble, happy heart. And in so doing, we have the privilege of being involved with God in His kingdom coming and His will being done on earth as it is in heaven.

The Christian life is not complicated. Listen to the Lord and do what He says in the power that He provides. You will make heavenly history today.

SETTLING THE ISSUE OF WHY YOU LIVE
SETTLING THE ISSUE OF WHY YOU LIVE

February 18, 2025

I have known many people who have had great joy and power in the midst of great suffering. It is humbling that the slightest inconveniences deter many of us from following God. We have not gotten to the bottom—settled the issue. Most often, we live for our comfort, reputation, or gain. When any of those goals are touched, we are troubled and discontent.
