This is God. He hears, He listens, He is aware, He responds to those who call upon Him. The reason this account is here is to remind you of who God is—to build your faith to believe that the God who heard and answered the Israelite’s cries will hear and answer yours. He's done it for millions, and He will hear your cry right now.

God’s hearing is impeccable. Perfect in fact. He will hear you if you will cry to Him. And, He will answer. God heard Hagar’s affliction and told her to return to her home (which was the opposite direction). He promised to take care of her in the midst of her persecution and to bless her son.
When God responds to our affliction and answers, it may not be the answer we desire, but His directions in the midst of the problem are always right. That is why, when He speaks, we must instantly obey the promptings of His Spirit and the illumination of His Word.

What do you do when you are in crisis? When the people around you are suffering? Or rebelling? When the nation you live in is spiraling downward spiritually and under the righteous judgment of God?

If you are a follower of Christ, God has called you to a great work. He has more to accomplish through you than you can possibly imagine. Remember, he is not after you, but the work of God (which he hates) through you. Understand the power of an undistracted life.

We can know the mind of God because He now lives in us! And we can speak the truths of God to others because He can speak through us! This is being “conformed to the image of His Son” and the greatest joy of the Christian life!

Just think of glorious mercy of this! We are burdened and humanly incapable of knowing how to even pray. The Spirit picks up that burden, takes it to the Father on our behalf and the Spirit prays that prayer perfectly because He is going to bring it in accordance with God’s will.

These all with one mind were continually devoting themselves to prayer (Acts 1:14)
Prayer is the foundation for all of life. Imagine the emotions and sense of fear and expectancy when Christ had been resurrected, appeared to His disciples, and then ascended. They were instructed to merely wait for the coming of the Holy Spirit who would endue them with power to be witnesses to Christ all across the world (Acts 1:8).
So, what did they do?

Jesus was always going "up on the mountain" or "away into the wilderness" to pray. Don’t try to convince God of your busy-ness as an excuse for prayerlessness. Time was no obstacle to Jesus’ prayer life. It was always the priority.

There are many moments in life when the greatest need is to unleash your concerns to another. To let the deepest worries and burdens of your heart be known to another. Sometimes we need to just be heard or to process aloud before a caring heart. Often, we need some good counsel in response.

Jesus modeled or spoke of prayer over 25 times in the Scriptures. But perhaps the most profound model of prayer came in Gethsemane, hours before His crucifixion. It shows us how to pray at the darkest hours of our lives.
