In their arrogance, they thought they didn’t need a Savior because they could be justified before God by their own “supposed” good works. And so, they rejected Christ. If you think you’re the savior, you’ll violently resist anyone who threatens your control.

If God is speaking and is speaking through His Son, how could we turn a deaf ear? Disregard the Speaking Voice? Pay no attention to His blessed communication. Ignore a single word? How could we not read His word (His primary means of communication to us)? Listen to His Spirit (who is has placed inside of all believers so that we might “freely know the things given to us by God”)? Go days and months without prayer?

Think of this deeply. Let it sink into your soul. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, Alpha and Omega, Beginning and End, the Creator of all, wants to be with you! He has provided everything necessary for this to occur. He has initiated this relationship and it is not to be a momentary acquaintance but an eternal, increasing friendship. What a humbling thought and matchless privilege. And what a tragedy if we ignore His invitation and live without His presence. It was never meant to be so.
