All of life is a classroom. God’s creation, Word, Spirit, and people (the church) are constantly speaking if we will hear. His voice is all around us. Prayer is the avenue of His most intimate communication with us. Like radio waves constantly filling the air, all we need do is dial in with a humble heart, and we will begin to hear. We are to be lifelong learners, and everything we need for this process is before us.

This comes through fervent study of His Word, surrendered listening to His Spirit, and a listening ear to the counsel from those around us who know God’s Word and can give wise counsel. Sadly, most of us do not do what Jehoshaphat recommended. “Please inquire FIRST for the word of the LORD.” The word “first” literally means “as the day.” It could mean “today, right now.” But it also implies “for this day, in this particular moment.”
