MEETING GOD IN THE MORNING

MEETING GOD IN THE MORNING

One of the great essentials is to begin each morning entering the presence of the Lord … drawing near. He wants us to come, inviting us repeatedly. If we are a true believer, we are one of His children, and He longs for us to get our day started right. The Great Adjustment comes from entering His presence, shutting the door, and praying to our Father.

Take time to look at the Father, Son, and Spirit in the Throne Room. Worship them with the Psalms and in song. Become conscious of where you are. You have every right to be there because Christ has introduced us, by faith, into this grace in which we now stand and we have peace facing God (Romans 5:1-2).

Prepare your heart to hear Him before you open to your daily reading of His Word. Then, ask Him to open your eyes so that you may behold wonderful things from His Word.

When you come to something God wants to say to you, don’t rush forward to ensure you fulfill your reading plan. You are here to meet with God in the morning. To set the course of your day. To cleanse your heart and purify the double-mindedness of your mind. To receive any instructions and fresh words from God for you and others on this particular day. Put your head back and ask questions with God. “What do You want to say to me, Father? What does this mean? What do you want to place in my heart that I may give to others today?”

Throughout, you will be praying—praying for an awareness of His presence, for Him to make Himself known to you in His Word, and praying “in” what God is showing you. Write it down and pray it in. Pray the truths you’re seeing over yourself, your family, and those you love. Ask God if there is someone in particular who needs to receive this thought today, and plan to send them a note or call them as God directs.

As you sense the time is nearing to rise and head into your day, ask the Lord to help you abide (to remain, to stay) in His presence all day long. And pray Moses’ morning prayer from Psalm 90.

O Lord, YOU have been our dwelling place in all generations! O satisfy us in the morning with Your lovingkindness, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. Make us glad according to the days You have afflicted us and the years we have seen evil. Let Your work appear to Your servants and Your majesty to their children. Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us and confirm for us the work of our hands. Yes, confirm the work of our hands.
(Psalm 90:1, 14-17)

“The people … found grace in the wilderness.” My, my. The summary of our lives in one verse. Amid this world’s darkness, the Enemy’s relentless attacks, and the weakness of our flesh, we are continually finding grace from our Father, even in the wilderness. In fact, especially in the wilderness.
