Whether you realize it or not, the God of the universe made you in His image and has planned for you to rule with Him over part of His creation in this world and the world to come. You may not be stepping into His design and your destiny, but His plan was expressed in the triune God’s first statement about us.

Regardless of what you think your situation is in life, if you will follow God without reservation, trust Him explicitly with bold faith, and give Him all the glory, He will put you EXACTLY where you need to be to help people and glorify Him. And He will do it with amazing timing and precision.

When we have genuinely made the turn, we don’t live for ourselves anymore. We live for Christ and the others He loves. Our conversation does not orbit us but Him. Our service is not to help yourself but others (with no thought of ourselves). We enter the blessed, liberating state of self-forgetfulness and find the biggest and most joyful life possible.

We see strutters everywhere in our society now. Wickedness is abounding in the land and it strengthens the hand and voice of the proud among us. In their arrogance, they think they are winning, that they have the right to do and say whatever they want (even if it flies in the face of the One-Who-Made-Them). When people applaud you and wave banners that reinforce your position, it’s sadly incredible how bold you can become.

Pride is such a devious and deadly sin. I find it creeps upon my soul when I least expect it, and suddenly and almost unconsciously, I'm worried about what others think, anxious to be known, drawing attention to myself, thinking about and pampering my desires before others’ needs, and on and on. It chokes my intimacy with Christ, turning my eyes from Him to myself. It makes me a sorry friend, more interested in what others can do for me than I for them. The world is filled with sinfully proud people. We’re all proud. This is tragic, for pride is the mother of all sin, and the explanation for everything evil in this world.
We want to be known, applauded, first, recognized. Pride causes us to lean on our own humanity, not God. A clear indication of our pride is how little we pray. If we don’t really turn to God, it’s a clear indication we think we can handle life on our own.

The Lord honors those who see themselves rightly. He promises to bless a man who lives in wise dependency before Him. As he looks to the Lord, God provides him with all he needs, and the world sees what a man with a correct opinion of himself is like.

The great concentration of our lives should be to look at Christ. To gaze at Him often and early through His Word and in prayer. Ask Him to reveal Himself to You. If you look carefully, you will always find one more reason to run into His arms.

We are consumed with ourselves. Review your average week and notice how much of your time is spent on thoughts of yourself.

But there are two truths that are more important than all the rest. These are usually not taught in our schools or valued by our society. Sadly, most people are never even exposed to these truths, and they live regrettable lives, hampered by tragic misunderstandings.

Many men cannot handle spiritual success. When God blesses them, if they are not careful, they will begin to attribute to themselves what God and others have accomplished in their lives.
It is a great temptation to read your own press clippings.

How do you see yourself? A mature man has come to the humble knowledge that he is nothing without Christ and everything with Christ. He is a mere branch on a glorious Vine, but he has been fearfully and wonderfully and uniquely made by the Creator, designed for great achievements by God’s grace. This wise balance allows him to live powerfully, but dependently in life.
