Pride is the root of all sin. It is the sin that causes us to exalt ourselves over others and over God Himself and it is the antithesis of unselfish love. God repeatedly reminds us that He resists the proud. We see this pride in full color in the life of Haman in the book of Esther and the predictable outcomes of an arrogant life.

If is easy to forget God, which is our greatest problem. We become consumed with our daily lives and begin to believe that we are the center of the universe, that no one can quite make it without us. The remedy for this is to read our Bibles to see God, to gaze long at Christ, (who was God in human flesh), and to be awed by God in creation. To remember who God is.

Pride is the mother of all sins. The thought that I am the sum of everything … that I made things, achieved things on my own, have a right to honor and recognition, should be thought well of by others...the list goes on and on. It’s all pride. And it’s all deadly.

It's a simple sentence, but profoundly telling. It was the reason a young shepherd named David became the greatest King Israel ever knew. It was why God would entrust such responsibility into his hands. And, It's the necessary essential of all great leaders.

We are relentless in our humanistic pride. Left to our own way, we think we can handle life. We ignore God most of the time, vainly thinking we’re capable. We do not pray, nor look to Him. We do not read His Word and listen to His instructions for His life. And, we do not surrender to Him and follow Him humbly in faith. And the results are disastrous.
