GOD IS TALKING ... Are you listening?

January 23, 2019

It's hard to believe. God has committed Himself to communicate with His creation. In one of the greatest Psalms, David tells us two of the most profound ways in which this is done.

THROUGH CREATION

Notice the COMMUNICATION words in the first four verses of Psalm 19.

1 The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.

2 Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.

            3 There is no speech, nor are there words; their voice is not heard.

4 Their line has gone out through all the earth, and their utterances to the end of the world.

The Apostle Paul would later state this truth, reminding us that there is no one who has ever lived who hasn't had the opportunity to know God, simply because He has revealed Himself so clearly in creation and in their conscience.

Romans 1

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.

20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

No man will be able to stand before God one day and say, “Lord, I didn’t have the opportunity to know You!” God has made sure of that, and it is driven by His incredible love for His creation. This makes a man’s unwillingness to hear and acknowledge and honor Him even more heinous.

THROUGH THE WORD

But there's more. If that were not enough, God has gone to extraordinary lengths to make Himself known to us through the Bible. 1000 pages of black and white, Divine revelation, written from God's mouth through men's pens to our eyes and minds and hearts.

And, this communication is not stagnant. The Word is "alive and powerful" (Heb. 4:10) and "profitable" in every way needed (1 Tim 3:15). Everything you need for "life and godliness" to become a “partaker of His Divine nature” (to become like Him) is found in its pages (2 Peter 1:3-4).

Look at the effects of the Word of God, to those who will read and respond to the voice of God. David tells us what the word IS and what it DOES in the latter half of Psalm 19.

7 The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul;

The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.

8 The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;

The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.

9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;

The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether.

10 They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold;

Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.

11 Moreover, by them Your servant is warned;

In keeping them there is great reward.

GOD SPEAKS!

In every way needed, to every man and woman, boy and girl who will listen. "He who has ears to hear, let him hear" Jesus often said. All that you need is found in Him ... and He has made Himself plainly known and available to all who will, with humble, teachable hearts, pursue Him!

So, here is your most important question: God is speaking, but am I listening? Am I availing myself of the greatest and most important exercise of this earthly life? To hear and know God?

Lord, thank you for your incredible self-disclosure! Thank You for Your willingness to make Yourself know to all men. In fact, to the least of this and to me. Thank You that You are available to be seen and known. Forgive me for every bit of pride that has led me away from You, vainly thinking I can handle life by myself. Let me humbly trust You enough to listen intently to You.

Give me a hungry, teachable heart that seeks You daily and continually. And lead me in the everlasting way!
