GOD, WHO CANNOT LIE

GOD, WHO CANNOT LIE

God is completely truthful. His nature demands that such is true. It is impossible for a perfect God to see the future imperfectly and predict falsely what is going to happen.

AN ANCIENT ILLUSTRATION

Look at the living illustration in Joseph's life. God gave young Joseph a dream that one day all his brothers would bow down before him. This so enraged them that they captured him and sold him into slavery.

Then Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him even more. He said to them, “Please listen to this dream which I have had; for behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and lo, my sheaf rose up and also stood erect; and behold, your sheaves gathered around and bowed down to my sheaf.” (Genesis 37:5-7)

Fast forward multiple decades. Joseph has been sold into slavery, exalted in his master’s house, falsely accused and put into prison, then miraculously raised as second in command to Pharaoh Himself. His brothers came to him (not knowing it was Joseph) to get grain during the time of famine.

When Joseph came home, they brought into the house to him the present which was in their hand and bowed to the ground before him. (Genesis 43:26)

GOD CAN BE TRUSTED

Over and over again, thousands of times in human history God has proved His faithfulness. He takes care of the lilies of the field and the sparrows. If there is an occasion where you think He has not been faithful, it is never something wrong with HIM. We may have missed God or put timetables and speculations on Him that He never promised. He cannot lie.

What does that mean today? It means that you can trust Him. Every single promise He has made to us can be embraced and believed. His 7,000 promises in His Word to us are given so that we may experience the perfection of His integrity.

Where do you need Him today? He is there and He is not silent. He has a word for you because He loves you. Do not doubt it, for He simply cannot lie.

Father, thank You for your perfect truthfulness. Thank You that I can pick up the bible this morning, believe what it says, and then walk and talk like what You have said is really true. Thank you that my faith rests on the rock of Your veracity. Help me today to believe You more and follow You more faithfully.

Wisdom is a product of insatiable desire. Solomon, who at least at one point was the wisest man on the face of the earth, gave instructions to his son and all of us about how to gain wisdom. A foolish man could care less about this type of instruction because he thinks he is wise on his own. He does not know that wisdom is something that must be gained. And it is gained only when it is sought with aggressive tenacity.

Our job is to remember who He is, who we are, and understand the difference. And then live every common day looking to and relying on the One who is all in all. Ten times in John 15 Jesus uses the word “abide,” which is to remain in a stable, fixed position with Him.
