OUR DAILY TASK

OUR DAILY TASK

We are routine people. Take a mental survey: you operate with of amazing consistency. You probably shower and dress yourself the same every day. You put on your clothes with the same pattern. Your response to most events is predictable.

In fact, there is a part of your brain that is completely devoted to storing and facilitating these habits. Studies show that if this brain activity didn't function, you would be in real trouble, because there are thousands of things you do routinely without thinking. If you had to make every decision about the routine work of your hands or your feet, for instance, you would be paralyzed into inactivity.

A MISSING COMPONENT

There is a daily routine that is missing in most believer's lives. It has not yet been programmed into the mind's computer because we have not done it enough to let it become habitual. The tragedy is, for the Christian and unbeliever alike, it is the most important habit of our lives.

We do not intentionally and habitually share Christ with everyone we meet, every day.

God has so designed His work that people CANNOT and WILL NOT be saved eternally if the gospel is not verbally shared, and then united by faith in their hearts.

How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? (Romans 10:16)

Read that verse again and meditate upon it. It is written for you. It is YOUR MOST IMPORTANT DAILY TASK!

The "believing" happens in the hearer's heart, made possible by the grace of God. But the verbal testimony of the gospel is our part, made possible by God's graceful help and our surrender to be used daily by Him.

But they will not believe it they do not hear. And delivering the message is our most important daily task. And that includes today.

Father, overwhelm me with the lostness of those around me. Break my heart, as You broke Paul’s with their situation and their desperate need for Christ. Compel me to boldly share the gospel with them today.

I have known many people who have had great joy and power in the midst of great suffering. It is humbling that the slightest inconveniences deter many of us from following God. We have not gotten to the bottom—settled the issue. Most often, we live for our comfort, reputation, or gain. When any of those goals are touched, we are troubled and discontent.
