God is a promise-keeping God. It is the way He operates. Over 7,000 times in the Scriptures, God gives man promises. Some are unconditional (“I will do this”), and some are conditional (“I will do this IF you do this”). But all are ironclad promises from the One-Who-Does-Not-Lie.

Everything in the life that God has designed for man is about faith. We were made to live on God and no other. Drawn away from this dependency, we flounder in useless pursuits, our lives missing the whole point of our existence.

When you are weak, do you quit? Do you wallow in despair and self-pity? Do you resign yourself to a second-best effort? Do you try to pull yourself up by your own bootstraps? Or do you, like David, say, "For YOU are the God of my strength!"

There are two categories of people in the world: those who trust God and those who do not. Faith means to believe, to depend upon, to rely on, to look to.
You can check your trust level by answering one simple question: How much do you pray? If you can go a day, a week, or a year without ever really praying, it’s a clear indication that you think you can handle life yourself. That you feel you don’t need God. That you are trusting in yourself and your own resources. This decision is fatal.

Our greatest questions in life all surround God’s will. “What is His path for me? What is the next, right step? Where should I go? What should I do next?” ... God is not capricious. He is not trying to confuse or manipulate us. He’s raising children, and we must see the classroom of decision-making as one of His best subjects. We must show up on time, listen to our kind Instructor, take detailed notes, and not leave our seat till the bell has rung.

The great tragedy will be those who distance themselves from Jesus, foolishly doubting His word. Those who fail to believe in this life will forever abhor their pride. But those who humbly follow will find everything just as He said.

In the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7), Jesus outlines an entirely different orientation to life than people had known. "You have heard it said ... but I say" was the teaching device He used to communicate this contrast. "The world's kingdom is like this (this is your normal way of operating), but my Kingdom is exactly the opposite."

Fear is the most natural path for all of us. It sneaks up on us through the night and hits us full in the face some mornings like the rising sun. It attacks us at the most inopportune times, paralyzing us and making it almost impossible to move forward. And it makes life miserable. Who has not felt the anxiety of unwanted fear?

But there are two truths that are more important than all the rest. These are usually not taught in our schools or valued by our society. Sadly, most people are never even exposed to these truths, and they live regrettable lives, hampered by tragic misunderstandings.

“God is easy to live with,” wrote Tozer. The world and its Prince paint a caricature of God as a demanding, unloving tyrant. But in His perfect love, how could this possibly be true? He is perfect in righteousness, but also perfect in grace. He meets us where we are to bring us to faith.

It is a wonderful thing to have confidence if it is placed in the right source. Paul speaks about the secret he's learned to be content in any and all circumstances. He knows how to live in prosperity or in "humble means." What was the key to this contentment?

There is a great value in simply believing. And out of that faith, bending the knee and acknowledging Christ as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. There is a simple joy in accepting the risen Christ for who He said He is and proved to be. Not no need to lie and deceive and create a false narrative to tell others. Just the joy of knowing and following Him, who is Lord of heaven and earth.
