We are all tempted daily, hourly. And we fail often. It is so common that often we do not recognize the temptation until we have fallen. But usually, it is a very clear choice in front of us. And we grow weary with this unceasing war.
But there is encouraging news about our trials and temptations. News that should lift our hearts and give us the courage to face the next battle.
No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13)
COMMON TO MAN
We wallow in self-pity and uselessness as we think that no one else is going through what we're facing. But this is a deception. Millions have people have experienced the same, and many have overcome what they've faced. And even Christ, who was "tempted in all points yet without sin," numbers Himself with us. You’re not the only one doing battle with the exact temptations you’re facing, nor will you be the last.
CONTROLLED BY GOD
Samuel Plimsoll discovered the equation determining a ship's load limit. It is called the "Plimsoll Line" and is familiar to every sailor. There is a symbol on every ship denoting this load limit.
God has placed a Plimsoll Line around your life, and He will never overload it beyond what you can endure with Him by His grace. Whatever you’re facing is under the sovereign hand of God. There are limits, and God knows exactly where they are and will not allow trials or temptations beyond those points.
CONQUERABLE BY YOU
God promises to provide a "way of escape also so that you will be able to endure it." Notice, He does not promise merely a way of escape, but a way to overcome in the midst of the difficulty so that you can make it through. So that you can survive victoriously.
No demand is made upon your life that is not made upon the Christ who lives within you. Don't let Satan deceive you about your ability in Christ or God's kindness and provision. You may not be experiencing this victory yet, but you have all you need in Christ as you face each trial and temptation.
