There are a few people in the world whose words are meaningless to me. I can love them and see them as someone in need of Christ. But when they speak, I know from a long observation that their words are probably going to be deceptive and wrong. I don't pay attention much to their opinions. And, I would certainly not follow their counsel.
I'm sure that's true of you too. But there is One whose opinion matters. The One from whom every word is wisdom and righteousness and mercy and justice all combined.
OUR OPINION
Do you value God's word? If you do, you will find yourself drawn to read and study and respond to everything He says. This was the Psalmist attitude.
Psalm 119
161 Princes persecute me without cause,
But my heart stands in awe of Your words.
162 I rejoice at Your word,
As one who finds great spoil.
163 I hate and despise falsehood,
But I love Your law.
164 Seven times a day I praise You,
Because of Your righteous ordinances.
165 Those who love Your law have great peace,
And nothing causes them to stumble.
166 I hope for Your salvation, O Lord,
And do Your commandments.
167 My soul keeps Your testimonies,
And I love them exceedingly.
168 I keep Your precepts and Your testimonies,
For all my ways are before You.
Here is the foundational attitude that a wise man has toward God's Word.
HIS PROMISE
The result of such a heart attitude?
Those who love Your law have great peace, and nothing causes them to stumble. (vs. 165)
This man or woman has peace because their lives are not standing on the shifting sands of culture or circumstances, but on the sovereign, never-changing promises of The-One-Who-Is-Above-All. And, they do not stumble because they are following The Good Shepherd who leads them in all the right paths for His name's sake.
How do you know what your attitude is towards God’s Word? It’s very simple. If you cherish His Word, you will make time to prayerfully read it and gladly obey what He says. Every day. It is the source you run to first for direction. It will assume the highest place in your heart and mind for it is not merely a value for the Bible, it is your value of God Himself.
