YOU NEVER KNOW

How do I know if my witness to others will make any difference? Most of us are timid about our faith with others. It just takes a slight suggestion in our mind of "they're probably not interested" for us to keep our mouths closed. If you wonder about this, look at Jonah.

AND 8-WORD SERMON

The reluctant prophet, Jonah, was sent to an “exceedingly wicked city” called Nineveh. All indications were that in their extreme rebellion, they would not listen to a word from God. And Jonah didn't want to go. These people were abhorrent to him. But God told Jonah to walk through the city repeating an 8-word sentence. The results were stunning, almost unbelievable.

Then Jonah began to go through the city one day’s walk; and he cried out and said, “Yet forty days and Nineveh will be overthrown.” Then the people of Nineveh believed in God; and they called a fast and put on sackcloth from the greatest to the least of them. (Jonah 3:4-5)

Obviously, God was preparing hearts for this word before the prophet got there. One single act of obedience, even with a grudging heart, brought a whole city to repentance and faith.

YOU HAVE NO IDEA

… what God is doing in someone else’s heart, even people you’ve never seen before. If God prompts you to speak His word to them, do it. Don’t reason. Don’t logic your way out of sharing the gospel. Trust that God has a reason for the words He’s placing in your mind and heart. God may want to redeem them on the spot, or it may be a word that fits in with a longer narrative in their lives.

Just open your mouth and share as God prompts you. And see what God will do!

Our greatest misconception is that God is uninterested in us. From the beginning our Ancient Enemy has deceived us into thinking that God is holding out and on us and that He has no interest in our fellowship.

But the testimony of Scripture (and of men and women who have known Him) shatters this lie like a hammer shattering a rock.

When God has a work to do, He prepares the necessary man or woman. When He planned to build the tabernacle in the wilderness--a tent like which there had never been built--he prepared skillful men to do the task on a level that could not have happened otherwise.
