Humans are great forgettors. We are easily distracted and quickly lose sight of the most important things. The pull of the world, the weakness of our flesh, and the lies of the Enemy are constantly pulling us away from the One we should remember most: God Himself.
But God is the Creator and Source of everything. He is to be worshiped and served continually. And we need reminders to help us stay undistracted in our devotion to Him.

PSALM 136
… is an amazing Psalm. The Psalmist recounts 26 different things God had done for Israel. Each statement is followed by this refrain “For His lovingkindness (checed) is everlasting.” It’s almost hard for us to read because of the redundancy of this statement. But that redundancy is the point. Every statement of what God has done for us should be followed by a humble, awe-inspired statement of gratitude.

If we are in a right frame of mind about reality, we should be giving thanks to God and worshiping Him ALL DAY LONG in every circumstance. Paul reminded us to “Rejoice in the Lord always” and “In everything give thanks.” The Psalmist in Psalm 113 follows this command with the rationale for unceasing praise.
