WAKING UP WHEN GOD CALLS

WAKING UP WHEN GOD CALLS

It sounds silly and so unimportant. But there is a critical spiritual truth and practice that makes all the difference. Proverbs reminds us of what happens when we choose to sleep when we should be rising.

A little sleep, a little slumber,  a little folding of the hands to rest”—Your poverty will come in like a vagabond and your need like an armed man. (Proverbs 6:10-11)

I memorized this verse in college because I was having difficulty getting up to meet with God in the mornings. It would be impossible to calculate how many thousands of times God has used this verse to get me out of bed.

Everything in my life that is of value comes to me in the mornings, for this is the time I read, pray, write, and meet with God. I cannot imagine the difference in my life, the lack I would be experiencing if the Lord had not awakened me and the Spirit reminded me (through this verse) of the value of rising. The small price of waking in the night hours when God directs cannot compare to the inestimable value of hearing from the God of the universe, renewing my mind, and communing with Him.

Sleep is important. But it pales to the value of meeting in the quiet morning hours to meet with God.
