ARE YOU WISE?

ARE YOU WISE?

There are many people who have some knowledge, but few who possess real wisdom and true understanding. We can confer degrees and applaud human thinking, but those we consider the most knowledgeable can be completely devoid of wisdom. Their learning, without God, can make them utterly foolish.

Where then does wisdom come from? And where is the place of understanding? (Job 28:20)

There is only one source for authentic wisdom. Wisdom that applies knowledge in the right way. That understands the reason things are happening. That leads to the right decisions in the right moments in the right way.

God understands its (wisdom’s) way, and He knows its place. For He looks to the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens. When He imparted weight to the wind and meted out the waters by measure, when He set a limit for the rain and a course for the thunderbolt, then He saw it and declared it; He established it and also searched it out. And to man He said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom and to depart from evil is understanding. (Job 28:23-28)

THE SOURCE

If God is who He says, then there is no other One that understands like Him. He IS wisdom because He created everything, knows everything, and sees everything. He designed wisdom. If you want to be wise, you must find it in Him. T

THE PATH

Just as there is a solitary source for wisdom, there is a solitary path to become wise. You must fear Him. This is not a cringing fear, but an understanding of who God is and a glad submission to His lordship. The man who doesn’t fear God believes that he himself is God. He looks to himself. He obeys his own conclusions and follows his own desires.  He lives in the small orbit of his flawed thinking. To leave God out of the equation is the essence of foolishness. To ignore Him is to drink from an empty well.

This man will never find God’s wisdom, for he is cut off from the source. God is waiting to pour out wisdom on those who humbly fear Him and confidently ask, for He designed us in His image and wants to return us to His original design. But we must look to Him and Him alone.

Father, thank You for being the source of perfect wisdom. Thank You that there is a path for us to gain understanding. Thank You that we can ask, and You will gladly give it to us. We need your wisdom today in our lives, our families, our work, our churches, our nation. So, Lord, we look to You in faith.

SEEKING
SEEKING

April 16, 2024

But ours should not be the momentary search of an hour or a season. A quick turn when we’re in need. It must be a continual pursuit, for we have a continual need, and God deserves our continual attention. Pray without ceasing. Seek Him and keep seeking. And as you experience Him, you will find, as Lewis wrote, “everything else thrown in.”
