George Mueller was a man who lived in God’s presence. He was a pastor who is best known for his extraordinary faith that prayed in over 40 million dollars without mentioning a need to anyone. During his lifetime he build massive orphanages in Bristol, England, taking care of thousands of children and training them as great champions for Christ. His goal was to show the world that God was a prayer-hearing and prayer-answering God.
The secret to his legacy was his morning practice. Each day he would go out to a place where he walked while he read his Bible. He said his goal was to stay in the Word and prayer until he got his soul "happy in the Lord." He knew what David knew: that joy is found in one exclusive place. When David "set the Lord continually before (himself)," he found peace, stability, security, guidance, joy, and pleasure.
I will bless the Lord who has counseled me; Indeed, my mind instructs me in the night. I have set the Lord continually before me because He is at my right hand; I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; my flesh also will dwell securely. For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol, nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo decay. You will make known to me the path of life. In Your presence is fullness of joy. In Your right hand, there are pleasures forever. (Psalm 16:7-11)
Here is a vital question to ask each day: Am I happy in Jesus? Have I taken the time to center my heart and mind upon Him? To see His glory? To find His promises and be brought back to faith? To hear His instruction and know the path of life? To listen to His counsel on the issues of my daily life? To find the fullness of joy and pleasures forever? Am I living with a conscious awareness of His presence all day long? Do I awaken when He calls and let Him "counsel me in the night?"
There is no substitute. No Plan B. The men and women who have been great for God are made great in one place: in the presence of God.
Father, let me live continually with a deep, settled awareness of Your presence. Let everything flow from Your throne to me and through me to others. Make me miserable when I am neglecting You. Help me to seek You above everything, always. Let me rise whenever You wake me and pursue You with all my heart.
Thank You for making the way to Your throne room so accessible! Let me never stray from Your presence.
