Knowing GOD

January 30, 2017

""God is easy to live with,"" Tozer said, and He's right. The most amazing attribute of God to me is His willingness to be understood. His self-disclosure. He is waiting to be known.

If you don't want a relationship with someone, you go dark. You are unwilling to be transparent, to be known. God's self-disclosure indicates His invitation to intimacy. And here is the greatest delight, for ""In His presence is fullness of joy and at His right hand are pleasures forevermore!"" (Psalm 16:11)

And so, David, (who knew God well), reminds us in his prayer of the path to intimacy with the Father.

Make me know Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for you are the God my salvation. For you I wait all the day.” (Psalms 25:4-5, emphasis mine)

HIS WAYS

Everyone has their ways. ""He always does that,"" we say of a friend, ""It's just his way."" Our ways describe what we value and how we operate. They display our character and determination.

God has His ways and He has made them known. So, David asks God for a great favor: ""Make me know Your ways, O Lord."" He wanted to know God and He knew He could come to know Him more by knowing His ways.

Are you a student of the ways of God?

HIS PATHS

God has paths for us, and they all lead to an increasing knowledge of Him. We can resist the paths that God has for us. We can choose the broad path that leads to destruction, or determine that we will increasingly choose the narrow path that leads to life ... that leads to Him.

Christ walks on this path with us. To walk His paths is to know Him more, like the two who walked with Him on the road to Emmaus and declared, ""Did not our hearts burn within us as we walked with Him along the way?""

Are you walking on His path?

HIS TRUTH

God has most deeply displayed Himself through His Word and His word is truth. In pen and ink, in 66 books over 1500 years, through God-breathed inspiration, God has laid down His description of Himself. His Word leads us to not merely know the truth—but to know Him.

Are you reading the Word daily? He is there on every page. Are your reading it to encounter Him?

David knew that the secret to life was to intimately and experientially know God and he “waited” on the Lord. To wait is to stand at attention—looking towards God in anticipation.

Paul would later confirm this value. ""I count all things but loss for the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord."" (Philippians 3:8)

God is waiting to disclose Himself to you. Are you waiting on Him? Aggressively learning His ways, faithfully walking with Him on His path, and fervently studying His Word to know Him?
