The Lord spoke again to Moses and to Aaron, saying to them, “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘These are the creatures which you may eat from all the animals that are on the earth. (Leviticus 11:1-2)
In the book of Leviticus, Chapter 11 and following, there is a long list of animals that are to be regarded by God’s nation, Israel as “clean” or “unclean.” Unclean animals are to be avoided for eating and carefully dealt with.
We read over these chapters quickly, usually paying little attention. But in these instructions, if we listen, we can learn one more beautiful truth about God:
God cares for His children!
LIMITED KNOWLEDGE
The Israelites had no possibility of the depth of scientific and dietary understanding to which we now have access. Louis Pasteur was the first to discover that there were germs that carried disease in the 1860’s. Our understanding of germs and disease has increased exponentially. Particularly thousands of years ago, there were animals that carried great risk for disease and death if consumed.
THE GREAT PHYSICIAN
But the Israelites had something far greater on which to rely, even for their diet. They had God. They had a Father who loved them who possesses perfect knowledge. He Himself was and is the Creator of everything. If they would follow Him, they would find the healthiest path for life.
There are multiple interpretations of why these dietary laws are included for the Israelites. But most Bible scholars agree that it was for their health and well-being. It was God taking care of His nation in the smallest details of life.
God cares for you, in every detail! The wise man is the humble man who realizes the limitations of his mind and understanding. Who bows to a Higher Intellect in childlike faith and unrelenting obedience.
Listen and follow Your Father today. He knows what He’s doing, and it is all motivated by an everlasting love.
Father, thank You for Your particular care for me. Thank You that you clothe the lilies of the field and You will clothe me. You know what I need and I am to come and simply ask You to give me my “daily bread” which You have promised to supply. Help me to listen carefully through Your Word and unceasing prayer, and humbly obey.

We are sheep, pure and simple. We are wayward and foolish at every turn. But as we humbly come to the end of ourselves and gladly surrender to the Shepherd’s care, we begin to know the level of care and leadership we were designed to enjoy.

When you enter freely into the throne room because Christ has “given us an introduction by faith into this grace in which we now stand” (Romans 5:2) … never forget the price paid for your freedom and salvation.
Stand in awe of Him … and stand humbly.

We must cooperate with God in ways that make it so. We should be careful that it is nothing less … that we are creating an environment where people are encountering God and communing with Him. A place alive with His presence.
