Your understanding about God determines everything in your life. Who you will trust, how you will trust, where you will go, what you will do, what you will become, and where you will spend eternity. A.W. Tozer said, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”
That is why five words in a simple Psalm are so powerful. If this is not understood, then everything in our life is skewed.
For the Lord is good. (Psalm 100:5)
GOODNESS
Satan’s great attempt since the Garden has been to convince mankind that God is evil. That He does not have our best interest at heart. He knows that if we doubt God’s character, we will never believe in Him, never trust and follow Him. And this is our Enemy’s great agenda.
But the Lord is good. Inherently, perfectly, eternally, personally. He is good in every dimension. Good in what He says and does. Good in what He commands. Good in all His judgments. Search the heights and depths of God (if you could), and you will find nothing but goodness. Good is defined by God. All that goodness is comes from Him.
The Psalmist expands this foundational statement for emphasis in the remainder of the verse.
His lovingkindness is everlasting, and His faithfulness to all generations. (Psalm 100:5)
His lovingkindness (one of the Scriptures favorite descriptions of God) never ceases to last. It is constant. And so is His faithfullness. You will never find Him failing on a single promise. And this extends to every generation.
THIS IS WHY ...
We should praise Him incessantly. It is why we should be confident in His directions and leadership. It is why we should follow immediately and fully.
George Mueller said that he continually spent time in the Word and prayer each morning until his “soul was happy in the Lord.” Meditating on God’s goodness until it becomes personal to you is a vital exercise. This right view of God changes everything.
