THE COURAGE OF FAITH

May 15, 2018

""Then it happened when the Philistine rose and came and drew near to meet David, that David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the Philistine."" (1 Samuel 17:48)

David is a stunning example of true faith. While the rest of Israel's army was cowering the back lines, David was enraged by Goliath's mockery of God and was immediately filled with a desire to vindicate God's name.

His heart was in sync with God's heart. This union put courage in David's heart. When others were running backward, David ""ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the Philistine"" (vs. 48).

WHICH WAY ARE YOU HEADED?

Your direction is telling. If you are filled with God and His Word, your faith drives you to do what God desires … and do it aggressively. It makes perfect sense to you, like David, to go after God's enemies and you have no fear. And, if you are moving out on the promises of God, you win the day against the enemy. He is no match for a man filled with God.

But, if you not filled with God, you are filled with excuses. You're running from the front lines, busying yourself with superficial things to pass the time. You sit around the campfire with the guys, telling stories about Goliath instead of God. And, all the while, God's name is being blasphemed and his people cower in fear. Not only do you miss your destiny, but you allow the enemy to be glorified and victorious.

It’s time to seize the day. Do whatever is necessary to get right with God. You will know you are there when you find yourself running quickly toward the battle line.
