There’s never been a man on earth like Jesus. Although fully God, He laid aside His God powers and lived completely as a man so He could become our sacrifice, so He could rightfully die in our place and make a way for us to be right before God.
Not only did His life show us what God is like (“He who has seen Me has seen the Father,” He told Philip), but it also showed us the absolute glory of what men and women could be like if they were in union with the Father.
Christ’s complete trust brought security, confidence, and ease that was stunning and undeniable. Life was not complicated because He simply listened to the Father and did what He said. There was not a single worry or need. There was no fear because He knew He was doing precisely what the Father desired. He was calmly trusting that His Father would accomplish all that was needed.
Notice in just one chapter of John’s gospel (John 6) how this faith in God manifested itself in the man, Jesus, and what it could do for you as you trust the Father. When you walk with God …
You don’t need public recognition and approval.
No one does anything in secret when he himself seeks to be known publicly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world. (Vs. 4)
You understand when people don’t believe in you, even your own family.
For not even His brothers were believing in Him (Vs. 5).
You accept the grumbling, gossip, and hatred of those who disapprove because you have your Father’s job to do and you’re resting in His approval.
The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it, that its deeds are evil. (Vs. 7)
There was much grumbling among the crowds concerning Him. (Vs. 12)
So a division occurred in the crowd because of Him. (Vs. 43)
You gladly accept the timing of God and patiently wait on God. You are content with Him.
My time is not yet here (Vs. 6)
My time has not yet fully come (Vs. 8)
So they were seeking to seize Him; and no man laid his hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come. (Vs. 30
Having said these things to them, He stayed in Galilee. (Vs. 9)
You boldly open your mouth and speak when the Father directs and speak only what He says.
But when it was now the midst of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and began to teach. (Vs. 14)
My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me. (Vs. 16)
Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.” (Vs. 37)
You do not seek your own glory but the glory of the One who sent you.
He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who is seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, He is true and there is no unrighteousness in Him. (Vs. 18)
You look forward to heaven with calm joy when the time is right.
Therefore Jesus said, “For a little while longer I am with you, then I go to Him who sent Me.” (Vs. 33)
Read John 6 repeatedly and ask Jesus to reveal Himself to you. You will be awed by His quiet trust. Stunned by His selflessness. Challenged by His boldness to speak and humbled by the lack of need for the approval of men. And you will be called to do the same for the glory of God.
