THE SIX MOST POWERFUL FACTS IN THE WORLD
February 02, 2023
The world is filled with millions of facts that we can know and share. There's tons of trivia. But what happens when we tell someone the simple truths about Christ? It can change people forever, just like it changed us!
THE EARLY CHURCH’S SIMPLE WITNESS
Four times in Acts 2, 3, 4, and 5, we have the record of what the apostles shared with people who had not yet believed in Christ. (Acts 2:22-36; 3:12-26; 4:8-12; 5:30-32). The simple facts of the gospel are shared by the early members of the fledgling church, and the facts are identical in each telling. The whole presentation is usually shared in a short paragraph. The Acts 5 account is only THREE SENTENCES!
“The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you had put to death by hanging Him on a cross.
He is the one whom God exalted to His right hand as a Prince and a Savior, to grant repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him.” (Acts 5:30-32)
Notice that their gospel witness contained six simple facts presented without fanfare or fancy speech.
- You put Christ to death.
- God raised Him from the dead.
- God exalted Him to His right hand as the Savior.
- He is granting repentance and forgiveness of sins.
- The Holy Spirit is given to all who obey Him.
- We are eyewitnesses of these things.
This is the only thing that we need to tell others too! Even the final point, #6, can be proclaimed by us also. We were not eyewitnesses of the resurrected Christ exactly as these men were. But we have had a personal encounter with Christ! We have seen Him and know Him personally (and they can too!)
We can’t improve on these three sentences and dare not add to them. We must believe that we can share the facts simply and boldly and let the Holy Spirit do His work in those who hear.
Be bold about the gospel. It has changed your life and can transform others forever. Why would we withhold these life-transforming truths?
- We’re all sinful and guilty.
- Christ came to die for our sins, and He is alive now!
- He is the only Savior, and He can save anyone!
- We must have a change of mind (repent) and come to Him for forgiveness.
- He will come to live in us by His Spirit, changing us and giving us the power to live.
-
It happened to me, and it can happen to you!

This is the heart of revival, both personal and corporate. Revival intimates two things have occurred: a drifting and a return. We have wandered from Christ. Our hearts have become cold and lifeless. To be revived is to be brought back to that which is life itself. It’s not a return to a program or a discipline. It is to fall in love with Jesus all over again. It is a repentance unto Him.

Is prayer a nice thing to do? Something we resort to when we are in a serious situation? A word to describe one of the disciplines of the Christian life? Secondary, but not really all that essential? Something we do as a segue between songs on a Sunday morning? Or is it the essence? The foundation? The fragrance that is to pervade everything for the serious follower of Jesus? The ultimate pathway to communion with God and the source of life and power for all we are and do?

Why should we pray fervently for the blessing of a nationwide or worldwide spiritual awakening? Why should we unite (as Jonathan Edwards said) in “explicit agreement and visible union among God’s people in extraordinary prayer for a revival of religion and the advancement of Christ’s kingdom on earth?” Why should we seek to cooperate together and not tear apart the beginnings of His awakening in our nation?
