THE VALUE OF WISDOM

THE VALUE OF WISDOM

In our world’s estimation, some things are more valuable than others. Gold is more valuable than wood; silver is more valuable than dirt. We have ideas about what is important to us, most of which center around wealth.

But all of our humanistic evaluations are skewed by humanistic thinking. If you want to know what is really valuable, with long-term worth, read Proverbs.

PROVERVBS 3
13 How blessed is the man who finds wisdom
And the man who gains understanding.
14 For her profit is better than the profit of silver
And her gain better than fine gold.
15 She is more precious than jewels;
And nothing you desire compares with her.
16 Long life is in her right hand;
In her left hand are riches and honor.
17 Her ways are pleasant ways
And all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her,
And happy are all who hold her fast.

When a man has sought and found God's wisdom and lived by it, it changes everything.

THE WAYS OF WISDOM ARE PLEASANT

A wise man does not live a caustic, harsh, bitter life. All the ways he has adopted are pleasant. They are pleasant to others and pleasant to him.

THE PATHS OF  WISDOM ARE PEACEFUL

A wise man not only has peace (because he lives in ways that bring peace to his soul and his environment) but also brings peace to those around him.

WISDOM BRING LIFE AND HAPPINESS

Because God is wisdom and the source of all real life, every place where His wisdom goes brings His life—into a home, a workplace, a church. Many people bring a measure of death with them wherever they go. But not the spiritually wise man. Spiritual life is his gift and legacy, and his soul is happy in the Lord.

What are you pursuing? I once talked to a man who said that he spent his life aggressively “climbing the ladder” only to discover that it was leaning against the wrong wall.

Pursue wisdom through the study of God’s Word and the pursuit of God’s presence. You will be eternally rewarded with all you find there and never disappointed.

I have known many people who have had great joy and power in the midst of great suffering. It is humbling that the slightest inconveniences deter many of us from following God. We have not gotten to the bottom—settled the issue. Most often, we live for our comfort, reputation, or gain. When any of those goals are touched, we are troubled and discontent.
